It appears that a rift has opened up between the band members of Asia after the original line-up of Steve Howe, Carl Palmer, John Wetton and Geoff Downes announced their intentions to tour for the 25th Anniversary of the founding of the band.
Howe, Palmer and Wetton have all previously left the band, being replaced over the years by John Payne, Guthrie Govan and Jay Schellen, who now appear to have been left out in the cold. The official Asia Website states that the current members will be announcing their future plans shortly.
Does this mean the end of Asia as we know it, or maybe the start of Asia as we know it? Whatever these plans entail, the original members have made their intentions clear; they plan on releasing a new CD, DVD and following them up with a world tour later this year.
The current band members were, until now, working on their new album “Architect of Time”, but with this announcement, this has now been shelved and all plans to tour as the current line-up have been cancelled.
